Chapter 4 > More scenes from New York
Here are some pictures from June and July in Manhattan. New York is a very exciting place in the summer, there's even more going on than usual. All of these pictures were taken outdoors, it seemed like everywhere I went, there was something cool, or at least interesting, happening.
The quintessential New York summer scene. I couldn't believe this was happening right across the street from my apartment. It was so hot and humid that someone opened up the fire hydrant to cool off. The kids loved it. The fire department came to turn it off, but within 5 minutes of their leaving, it was back on again. It was on for about 2 weeks straight at the height of the summer heat.

We had to check out the gay pride parade down 5th avenue.

I don't remember what this was about, something about swimming.

I don't remember what this float was about either, but they look like they're having a lot of fun.

One of the more eye-catching floats at the parade.

One of my favorite things to do was watching the roller skaters in central park on sundays. A really eclectic mix of people.

The guy in the bandana looks like Jimi Hendrix reincarnated as a man on roller skates.

Another great event in central park - summer stage. Free concerts all summer. This was the Kronos Quartet. They were a lot of fun.

What else is an essential part of summer? Baseball. We went to two Yankee's games. Here they are playing the Mets at Yankee stadium.

The grounds crew comes out and rakes the dirt about halfway through the game while dancing to 'YMCA'. Cool, huh?

The majestic New York Public Library main research library.
