Leonland - Leon Barnard

Chapter 4 > Madison

Madison has always been my true home, even though I haven't lived there in several years. Just before I moved down to Atlanta to start grad school I took a trip home to see my family for a few days. I never take many pictures when I'm there, because I've there's very little there that I haven't seen a hundred times. But on this particular trip I had the most gorgeous view of the city I lived in for 20 years from the plane. I don't recall ever flying across the city like this to get to the airport, at least not during the day. I never realized how pretty it was from above.

One of the main things that defines Madison - the isthmus. Downtown Madison is situated on an isthmus (what's an isthmus?) between two large lakes, Mendota (top) and Menona (bottom).

Downtown Madison and the near west side.

A close-up of downtown. The domed building is the Capitol. The Frank Lloyd Wright Menona Terrace is the long flat building along the water.

It's Lake Monona and it's the Monona Terrace.
