Leonland - Leon Barnard
Chapter 6 > California Avocado Festival
I couldn't have dreamt of something like this when I lived in Wisconsin. But in Southern California, it's an annual event. I had passed through Carpinteria before, but had been looking for an excuse to spend more time in the mellow coastal town just south of Santa Barbara. Overall, the festival was a bit less ambitous that I had hoped, but it was a fun experience nonetheless.
This giant, smiling avocado greeted us at the entrance.

A gorgeous setting on a great day.

Top entries in the largest avocado competition.

Descriptions of just a few of the many types of avocados that exist. I had no idea there were so many.

Definitely one of the highlights. Lots of fresh, tasty guacamole.

They even had avocado ice cream. It wasn't too bad.

After stuffing ourselves on green goodness, we drove up a little further to go wine tasting near Santa Barbara. Here's a shot of one of the tasting rooms.
