Leonland - Leon Barnard

Chapter 6 > Torrey Pines State Reserve

There's so much natural beauty in Southern California. My girlfriend and I went down to San Diego on a Saturday afternoon. Saturday night we ate dinner at a really cool sushi restaurant called Sushi Deli with a friend of hers from college. Sunday morning we explored the Hillcrest and La Jolla neighborhoods, then headed to the northern tip of San Diego to Torrey Pines State Reserve. Torrey Pines, home of the famous golf course, also has a really nice hiking area, with trails that weave all around a giant cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Walking from the parking area at the top to the trail that we followed.

Further down the road.

Looking north from the trail.

A funky rock near the start of the trail.

Our first stop along the way. Nice view, huh?

The trail really hugs the edge of the cliff for parts of the trail. The beach below is also part of the reserve.

A close up of a family wading through the water. Remember, this was January. That doesn't matter in San Diego though, it was 70 degrees.

Next time I'd like to walk along the beach.

Looking south from roughly the same place as the previous picture.

Sand-covered stairs taking us right up the cliff edge.

There were lots of these plants along the way.

Great photos! I love Torrey Pines, and it's nice to have something to show people.
